Today Hayden exercised his independence by waking up far too early. The poor little guy had a good excuse: he had a fever and just wasn't feeling well. So we spent the day at home, skipped church and watched lots of cartoons while lying on the couch. We did manage a trip to the store to buy a donut and some star-shaped red and blue sugar cookies. If you need evidence of how under-the-weather my little man was, he didn't even eat half his cookie before almost laying his head on the table and asking to go back to the couch. Needless to say we had a low-key holiday.
More evidence of how bad he was feeling: after lunch he napped for almost four hours! He still felt like he had a fever when he got up and there was more laying on the couch.
At first I was bummed that we were missing out on the holiday festivities but we made the best of it, and ended up having a pretty fun evening just the two of us. We made a quick trip back out to buy some sparklers and graham crackers, then headed to the back yard for fourth of July fun. Well, improvised fun. We had a "picnic" outside which consisted of peanut butter on a whole wheat waffle for dinner, lit our sparklers in broad day light and made our s'mores in the microwave. (Completely not the same effect, by the way). Hayden of course didn't know the difference and thoroughly enjoyed himself.
Hayden's first s'more. It was a hit!
Like most things are these days it was bitter sweet to celebrate the day while Matt is so far away.
To my favorite AF Captain: I am so proud of you for the sacrifice you are making, and for your decision to serve our country in the Air Force. I miss you so much and can't wait to see you again soon.
